[edit] Welcome Guide for New Members
Welcome to OpenTravel! This guide introduces new members to the OpenTravel collaboration tools, webinars and the OpenTravel Forum.
[edit] Introductions
The OpenTravel community relies on its members to proactively work together to facilitate electronic communication within the Travel Industry. In this spirit, we would like to introduce you to some of the people you will be working with: The Workgroup Chairs.
[edit] Webinars
To introduce the uninitiated to the OpenTravel specification development process, we invite members to join the following presentations (typically offered on a bi-weekly basis):
- Introduction to OpenTravel – an executive briefing that introduces participants to the organization’s structure and activities and the participation process.
- Introduction to the OpenTravel Schema – a technical presentation that introduces implementers and technicians to the design, best practices, and functionality of the OpenTravel XML Schema. This presentation assumes participants have an understanding of XML.
These presentations offer the perfect opportunity for new members to acquaint themselves with the organization and the specification.
Please check the announcements on the OpenTravel homepage for upcoming dates and additional information. Wiki members can also visit our Calendar.
[edit] OpenTravel Workgroups
Most of our new members join one or more OpenTravel Industry Workgroups or Project Teams: [ Hospitality | Transport | Travel Integration. ]
Work groups are organized by vertical (transport, hospitality, travel integration) while project teams are generally organized by function (vehicle exchange, promotional message, etc.) A project team is a part of the most appropriate work group, although any member can participate in any project team, regardless of the vertical(s) their company serves. Schemas are created or modified by project teams, and project team work is reviewed by the work groups. Work groups also review all comments submitted by members and by the public. Calls and meetings are determined by the individual workgroups and project teams. Unsure of which workgroup(s) you want to join? Click here for a list of OpenTravel workgroups and the OpenTravel messages they support.
You can also join the Architecture Workgroup, which is focused on everything outside the actual OpenTravel schema XML development. The Architecture Workgroup has monthly conference calls and occasional face-to-face meetings.
[edit] Member Support
Ask a Question or Start a Discussion on the OpenTravel Forum - OpenTravel has a Forum website with moderated support for OpenTravel Member questions or discussions in the Architecture, Hospitality, Transport, Travel Services and Tours & Activities sections of the forum.
[edit] Collaboration Tools
[edit] Wiki
The OpenTravel Wiki on which you presently find yourself is at the center of the Alliance’s collaboration efforts. The Wiki serves as the official repository for work group and project team documents, hosts the event calendar, and provides ample opportunity for collaboration and information sharing. Members are welcome to edit any of the wiki's pages to add to and improve the site's content.
All new members are strongly encouraged to sign up for a Wiki account. Requests for access will be approved within 24 hours.
[edit] Mailing Lists
OpenTravel maintains a number of mailing lists that inform members of upcoming conference calls and meetings. Membership of relevant mailing lists is also critical for participating in and staying up to date with OpenTravel's specification development.
If you have not received a notice of membership from any of the mailing lists or would like to add additional contacts, then please contact Bonnie Lowell, OpenTravel Specification Manager with your request.
Users with access to members-only pages can sign up for mailing lists themselves.
[edit] Additional Assistance
Should you require any assistance, you are welcome to contact Bonnie Lowell, OpenTravel Specification Manager with your questions.
